IARGO SPRINGS SCENIC AREA
This scenic area is a must see for visitors to the area. Spring flowers and summer greenery compliment the numerous natural springs which feed the AuSable River. A beautiful place to enjoy a picnic, or simply sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the "up north". Approx. 40 minutes East on River Road Scenic Byway.
JACK PINE WILDLIFE VIEWING TOUR
This 58-mile self-guided auto tour through the scenic AuSable River Valley and unique jack pine ecosystem provides a special opportunity to see the summer home of one of the rarest birds in the world...the Kirtland's warbler! Even though their numbers have increased in recent years, there are still only about 3,000 of these birds left on the earth.
LUMBERMAN'S MONUMENT
This impressive monument stands as a tribute to the lumbering era. Hands-on exhibits, displays and programs tell the colorful story of Michigan's lumber history. Forest Service employees are on hand to answer questions about the Huron National Forest.Approximately 45 minutes East on River Road Scenic Byway. Just a few miles East of the Iargo Springs Scenic Area.
Begin your tour in downtown Mio, approximately 5 miles West. The tour has12 specific stops, several having scenic overlooks of the AuSable River and surrounding wilderness. Tour brochures are available at the Michigan AuSable Valley Railroad Station.
